Are All Window Awnings the Same?

WINDOW AWNINGS

An awning is an overhanging secondary covering that is attached to the outer wall of a building. It is usually made of canvas, cotton, polyester, vinyl laminate or polyester yarn that is stretched over a structure made of aluminium, steel or iron.

Awnings have several advantages and can be used as an attractive and highly functional window covering in homes as well as commercial spaces.

Types of Awnings

Today, awnings come in primarily two forms – manually operated or motorised awnings that are powered through electricity.

Furthermore, each type can have additional supportive arms, which you can angle back against the wall for additional support or set up vertically to cover your decks and patios.

So if you are looking to invest in awnings for your home, restaurant or commercial space, you have plenty of options to choose from.

Aluminium Awnings

Awnings made of aluminium are one of the most popular options. They are ideal for providing protection against the sun while letting in enough light. These are extremely sturdy and last for decades.

Aluminium awnings for windows are perfect if you live in areas with high wind speed. Some of the models can even be pulled down and fastened to your windows in order to protect your interiors during storms and inclement weather.

They are available in diverse shades and sizes and are typically painted with enamel paint for further protection to the surface.

Retractable Awnings

Retractable awnings are another popular choice when it comes to awnings for windows. They are available in a wide range of designs.

Retractable Patio Awnings

If your windows look out onto the patio, you can extend the awnings installed on them further to cover your open space too by using retractable patio awnings. This is because such awnings are made of water-proof material and provide maximum protection against sun and rain.

Retractable Awnings with Lateral Arms

These awnings feature tension arms that fit into the exterior wall or through roof-mounted brackets for added support. This makes the awnings extremely durable. They are available in both hand-operated and motorised versions.

Retractable Awnings with Drop Arms

These awnings are typically referred to as traditional style awnings. Drop arm awnings provide excellent sun protection and are great for shading your windows. They come in stylish designs and have a roller tube on top, side arms that are spring operated, a motor and crank operator.
